The Crescenta Valley High boys’ basketball team suffered another big loss to Pasadena High School last week, but rebounded in beating Glendale High on Tuesday, setting up the big showdown on Friday vs. Arcadia.
That game will surely draw a large crowd, like Falcons/Apaches games always do, and it’s one that CV should walk away from with a win. The Apaches are just 1-6 in the Pacific League. Big time rivals like these two teams know not to take each other lightly, but the Falcons should know their place in league isn’t solidified, so it would be best to come out and play their best game of the season.
CV certainly played better on Tuesday than it did last week. They beat Glendale 60-50 by dominating the rebounding game with big men Harout Tahanian and Chuck Meyer providing a solid presence down low. The victory moved the Falcons to 4-3 in league, and 15-4 overall. They’re now tied with Glendale and Burbank for third place. The two teams meet again at GHS on Jan. 29.
Last Friday’s game was not as kind to CV. Pasadena, which is still undefeated in league at 7-0, overcame a tough second quarter and dominated CV in the second half en route to a 67-47 win, which was the second win over CV by double digits.
After a slow start, the Falcons made a push in the second quarter and trailed only 35-31 but the team could not play clean from the start, and turnovers were a problem all night.
The Falcons play in a tournament this weekend, but return home on Tuesday to host Hoover at 5 p.m.
The CV girls’ basketball team is 13-8 overall, and 5-2 in league after it beat Glendale 47-33 on Tuesday at Glendale High School. The girls’ previously lost a tough one to Pasadena, 62-59. The Falcons are in a three-way tie for second place with Pasadena and Burbank. Arcadia is 7-0 and in first place, and the Falcons will host the Apaches on Friday at 5:30 p.m. They’re back on the road on Tuesday at Hoover at 5 p.m.
