Girls’ Basketball
Jan. 30: The Prep varsity girls were looking to bounce back from a tough loss to rival Poly, but once again came up a little short losing to Rio Hondo 56-51. This drops the Rebels’ Prep league record to 4-2.

Feb. 2: After suffering a couple of tough road losses, the Prep varsity girls looked to use the comforts of their own home gym and bounce back against Mayfield. The Rebels came out with a lot of positive energy, and a suffocating defense to defeat the Cubs by a score of 72-31. The Rebels were led by the teams’ two stars Tala Ismail with 25 points and Maya Okamoto with 12 points. Both girls worked together to get the whole team flowing. Special recognition to recently added Ani Pridjian who scored her first points as a varsity player with four.

Feb. 4: The Prep varsity girls faced a big, strong, physical basketball team in the Webb Gauls, but withstood the punishment to get a hard-fought 51-40 win. The Rebels overcame a box and one defense by spreading the floor, moving the ball around and finding the open player. Taylor Yoshida and Renae Tamura were superb on defense and Renae’s sweet inside moves helped her post 10 points.

The Lady Rebels are 13-4 overall, 6-2 in league. They play today at Mayfield HS at 5 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer
Jan. 31: Pasadena Poly 3, Prep 2
With a tie score at halftime, there was a lot of anticipation for an exciting second half. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Poly had scored three consecutive goals. The Rebels didn’t quit and competed to the final whistle. Daniel Enzminger delivered a pinpoint corner kick in the 60th minute that was helped in by Bryce Delgado to put the Rebels on the board. Soon afterward, Tim Bates found Michael Weinstein, who placed a perfect ball in the back of the net.  But it was too little too late and the Rebels comeback hopes were dashed.

After giving up an early goal to the visiting Gauls, Riley Jones found the back of the net to tie the score at 1. Both teams had opportunities, but the game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw.
