The Crescenta Valley boys’ basketball team will take on Compton High School at Compton tonight, Thursday, at 7 p.m. in the CIF Division II-A quarterfinals.
The Falcons earned their berth in the game after defeating Culver City on the road on Tuesday 69-60 in the second round. Tyler Carlson scored 20 points and Alex Zoharalen put in 14.
CV, which finished 25-4 in the regular season, started the playoffs off last Friday at home and beat Diamond Ranch 59-56. The team is on an 11-game winning streak dating back to Jan. 8 – it hasn’t lost in over a month.
If the Falcons win tonight, they’ll go to the CIF semifinals, one game away from the championship game. The last time Coach Shawn Zargarian’s team was in the semifinals was in 2012 and 2013, where it lost both years to Orange County teams in Mission Viejo and El Toro.
Compton was 22-8 this year and second in the Moore League.
Girls’ Basketball
The CV girls’ basketball team had its season end last Saturday at home when it lost to Huntington Beach in the CIF Division II-AA playoffs 35-34.
Senior Georgina Kregorian scored a team-high 16 points, but missed the final shot with a second left that would have won the game.
CV finished with an 18-11 record overall and was second in the Pacific League. The team will say goodbye to seniors Kregorian, Caity Bouchard, Ndemoh Sesay, Mari Lee, Lauren Lundeen, Alin Mazmanian and Lizzy Peterson.
