The CV girls’ basketball team traveled a long way to get its heart broken.
The Falcons played at Katella in Anaheim for their first round playoff game in the CIF playoffs, and came up just short 44-40, ending their season.
The Falcons played sluggish throughout against the Knights. They trailed 27-13 at halftime, but managed to pick up their play in time to rally and only trail 42-40 in the closing seconds. But senior guard Catherine Davis’ 3-pointer missed, Katella grabbed the rebound and made its free throws, and that was the ballgame.
CV Sophomore guard Ella Stepanian scored 15 points, senior center Samira Seraji scored 12 and Davis chipped in five.
Katella improved to 19-8, and went 10-0 in its league during the season.
The Falcons improved upon last year’s record, going from 13-14 to 15-11 in the regular season this year. They finished 7-7 in the Pacific League and received an at-large bid for the playoffs after tying for fourth place in league.
