Burbank Bulldogs Victorious Over CV and Muir

Lieberman started slow but took the win in the last hurdles of 110H.

The CV Falcons held their first track and field Pacific League tri-meet of the season on their all season track facility against the Burbank Bulldogs and Muir Mustangs. Although the tri-meet had several more heats than is typical, scores were based on dual meet criteria.

Coming onto the field was a high caliber of talented athletes from all three teams who produced some of the best performances and times for the season thus far.

CV powerhouse runner, junior Dylan Wilbur, had a dual win in both the 1600m and the 800m. Burbank junior Victor Goli fought all the way to the finish in both races taking second in the 1600m. Wilbur ran 4:24.60, Goli 4:25.71, Falcon Grant Lauterback took third in a time of 4:34.50 followed by Ameer Mohammed (4:35.51) and Manan Vats (4:36.99).

Wilbur ran 1:59.96 in the 800m to take the win followed by Bulldog Mher Matevosyan (2:01.13) then Luis Castellanos (2:06.42).

CV senior Vince Lieberman won the 110H in 15:64 beating Muir Reggie Miles (15.70) and Burbank Nicolas Slaughter (16.83). Lauterback won the 3200m running 10:31.28 followed by Goli (10:33.41) then Burbank’s Dayne Ellis (10:40.35).

The Falcon team of Sophia Atin, Samantha Moore and Juliana won the top three spots in the 1600m. Atin won with a time of 5:24.26, Moore 5:28.62 and Chenev 5:29.07. Atin also came back to win her second gold in the 800m in a time of 2:31.43 with teammate Rebecca Dohertv placing second (2:34.18) and Burbank’s Shalom Mejia finishing third (2:34.38).

This year’s Muir team included many more outstanding athletes who provided several wins in the sprints, hurdle races and field events both in the varsity and frosh/soph races. Muir is continuing to build its program and has made a contribution to the league.

At the end of the day, the Falcon boys took home four gold and the girls three compared to Burbank boys (12) and the girls’ 13 first places.

Final varsity boys’ score: Burbank 95.5 vs. CV 40.5, Burbank 107 vs. Muir 27 and CV 75 vs. Muir 56

Final varsity girls’ score: Burbank 93 vs. CV 43, Burbank 113 vs. Muir 19 and CV 108 vs. Muir 21.

CV will compete in the Meet of Champions on Saturday, March 23, at Azusa Pacific. On Saturday, March 30, CV will participate in the Burbank Backwards Meet at Burroughs High School starting early in the morning.
