The Village Christian High girls’ basketball team came up two wins shy of a Division 4-AA state championship when it lost in the regional finals against Los Osos on March 18, 52-43. Los Osos, the SoCal champion, will face West Campus, the northern champion, on Saturday in Sacramento.
Head Coach Jon Sampang, a 2003 CVHS graduate, led his team to an Olympic League title and a CIF Southern Section title this season. The Crusaders, who featured Leslie Aguilar, Micaela Cacho-Negrete, Merc Odima and Alexis Mark, were 31-4 overall.
Village, CV Baseball Updates
The Village Christian High baseball team stayed perfect in league this week with a 14-2 win at Whitter Christian Monday. The Crusaders are 3-0 in the Olympic League, 7-1 overall.
Against Whitter, Village exploded in the second and third innings, scoring six runs and five runs, respectively. Tobias Plotkin had a grand slam and six runs batted in. Connor Rodriguez had two hits and drove in three runs, and Nick Rolls was 3-for-3.
Eric Oseguera was the winning pitcher, going four innings. He is now 4-0 on the season. Brian Greene took the loss as the starting pitcher for Whitter.
They are home to Maranatha on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Home games for Village are played at Tujunga Little League Field, 11950 Big Tujunga Canyon Road, Tujunga.
The Crescenta Valley High baseball team was 8-1 as it continued action this week at the Babe Herman Tournament at Stengel Field. The Falcons defeated Golden Valley 7-0 on March 18 and Redlands 2-0 on Monday.
CV’s first Pacific League game is Tuesday at Glendale High at 3:30 p.m.
