Caltius Capital vs. Montrose Travel

On Saturday, Caltius Capital and Montrose Travel played in a CSA Bronco (12U) match-up. The teams were well matched in a game that ended when the two hour limit was reached with Caltius coming out victorious over Montrose by the score of 5-4.

Caltius improved its record to 4-0 on the season and Montrose fell to 3-4 on the season.

From the start, both teams scored multiple runs in the first inning with Grady Schilling, Trey Ballard and David Frederick combining for two runs for Caltius. Nick Masumotto, Joseph Suh and Trent Lassario combining for three runs for Montrose Travel.

Lassario ended the game at 3 for 3 with two runs scored, and Suh showed his dominance on the mound by pitching three scoreless innings.     On Caltius’ side, Ballard, Frederick and Schilling combined for seven innings pitched, allowing just one run after a rough first inning and finishing the game with seven strikeouts to only two walks.

The Caltius pitching staff was helped by an outstanding catch in the first inning by center fielder James Baek.

Montrose Travel also had some strong defensive plays by its shortstop and solid outfield play by its outfielders.

Finally, even though the game was called because of time, it must be mentioned that in the top of the seventh that Caltius utility player Nathan Guich hit a bases loaded triple deep into right center field driving in Carter Walch, Ivan Rodriguez and Brock Steele.

Both teams look to improve each week with the expectation that they will see each other again in the playoffs.
