An impressive season by the Crescenta Valley boys’ volleyball team has left the boys in charge of their own fate heading into the final month of the season. The Falcons are 19-4 overall and an undefeated 5-0 in Pacific League play. They are currently tied for first place in the highly competitive League. And with victories over the third (Arcadia), fourth (Burbank), fifth (Glendale), and sixth (Pasadena) ranked teams in the League, only fellow undefeated Burroughs stands in the way of sole possession of first place.
Burroughs has not lost a set in Pacific League play yet this year, and the Falcons have only lost one – a 25-19 loss to Pasadena on March 31. In that match, a 9-2 run by Pasadena gave the Bulldogs an opportunity to win a second set and challenge the Falcons for victory, but CVHS locked down its defense and secured the win 25-16.
The Falcons are now sitting on the precipice of true greatness, hovering just outside the top-100 teams in the country, according to Max Preps. However, to get there they’ll need to face a Burroughs team that’s on a 14-game winning streak and ranked #36 in the nation, according to Max Preps.
When asked about the Falcons success thus far, coach John Nelson said that he is encouraging the team to take things one game a time.
“It’s nice,” he said. “Our record is really good. But records can sometimes be deceiving and we just need to keep trying to get better and have that sense of urgency that will push us to the next level.”
The first showdown with Burroughs was scheduled for last night, Wednesday, April 6, but a final score was not available at press time.
