Crescenta Valley’s Falcon Water Polo Club 16U and 18U girls both took home the first place plaque in the Gold Division of the Mikasa Cup Tournament held in Irvine April 16-17.
The ladies, coached by Pete Loporchio and Heather McLaughlin, were undefeated in their divisions.
The 16U team, consisting of Elissa Arnold, Gabriel Isacson, Katie Benson, Caitlin Connell, Maggie Connell, Grace Algeo, Eliza Arslanian, Lisa Echeverria, Lynley Fernandez, Devin Grab, Shannon Hovanesian, Sabrina Pierce, Sirius Pinget and Ashley Taylor scored a total of 44 and, only allowing 25, defeated Huntington Beach with a score of 6-3 to win the championship.
Fifty-three goals were scored by the 18U team of Dakota Davy Bertram, Shelby Gregg, Gabriel Isacson, Adrienne Ingalla, Kim Fraisse, Tyler Brown, Rachel Claus, Aimee Minsal, Stefanie Loporchio, Nayiri Kechichian, Sabrina Hatzer, Katie Benson, Elissa Arnold, Shannon Hovanesian and Devin Grab while they only allowed 22 to be scored against them. The championship was sealed by defeating Kearns from Utah 15-5.
The teams will continue to compete throughout the summer and hope to participate in the Junior Olympics early August of 2011.
