Baseball, Softball Look Forward to Playoffs

CV team celebrates win at Arcadia

By Brandon HENSLEY

The Crescenta Valley Falcons will go for an undefeated season in the Pacific League Friday night when they take on the Arcadia Apaches for the second time this week. If they win, the Falcons will capture the League championship.

The 2-1 win over Arcadia on Tuesday put CV (13-0) alone in first place over the Apaches (12-1) for the time being. If Arcadia wins Friday night at Stengel Field, the teams will tie for the title. CV pitcher Trevor Beer almost went a full game, but was pulled with two outs in the seventh inning. CV got the final out when second baseman Vincent Parrot threw home to catcher Brian Ghattas, who tagged out a runner trying to score.

Beer allowed one run on seven hits, with six strikeouts.

Playoff schedules will be released over the weekend. CV, which is 22-4, will likely host the first-round game at Stengel Field next week.

The CVHS softball team is tied tied for first place in the Pacific League with Burroughs, as both teams are 12-1. CV finishes the regular season today at Arcadia High School, and will hope for a win and a Burroughs loss against Burbank to win League outright, and then will look to the playoffs next week.

The Village Christian baseball team won’t be able to claim its second straight Olympic League championship after it lost to Maranatha last week, a tough 1-0 loss. The Crusaders will try and salvage one game against the Minutemen as both teams wrap up the regular season today at 3:30 p.m. at Tujunga Little League Field.

Village (8-3) will have to settle for second place in League behind the Minutemen (11-0), who have beaten Village twice this season, both time shutouts. Tuesday’s game went into extra innings and Marco Martinez got the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning. Maranatha’s roster also includes Max Blessinger, who played basketball and football at Rosemont Middle School.
