Golfers Advance in Youth Golf Classic

The local qualifier for the Trusted Choice Big I Youth Golf Classic was held at the Oakmont Country Club on June 24. This event was hosted by the Insurance Agents and Brokers of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena.

The low round in the boys division was captured by San Marino High School golfer Mason Chiu shooting a score of 4 over, 76. Second place was Steven Escobar from St. John Bosco High School posting a 79 and third place was La Cañada golf team member Dylan Choi shooting 80. All three of these golfers qualified for the second stage state event.

The girls’ division low score was shot by rising junior from South Pasadena High School Caitlyn Yamashita shooting a score of 85.

Tournament Chair Rick Dinger said, “I want to thank the First Tee Pasadena for sending over some amazing players to our qualifier this year. We are really hoping to have a player from our community advance to the national championship.”

The state qualifier will be held on July 12 and July 13 in Santa Cruz. The five low boys and two low girls will be invited to compete in August for the national championship at the Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Kansas.
