Hawks 12U Finds Victory in Shootout Tournie

The Crescenta Valley Full Force Basketball Hawks 12U team finished the basketball season strong. The team advanced to the championship bracket of the AAU national championships last week, then won the AAU Shootout Tournament held at Valencia High School in Placentia on Sunday.

Crescenta Valley High School graduate Vinny Espinoza is the head coach and Craig Carlson is the assistant coach for the team.

Most of the players are sixth graders who attend Dunsmore, Mountain Avenue and Monte Vista elementary schools.

In the semi final games, the Hawks beat the NJB All Stars 31-24.

Standout plays included Tyler Carlson who led the Hawks with 11 points, hitting three straight 3-pointers to give the Hawks the lead late in the game. Alex Yeganyan scored 7 point, going 5-6 from the free throw line. Steven Hodges made nine rebounds and Matthew Molina made five rebounds and five steals.

In the championship game, the Hawks pounded the Irvine Warriors 64-28 with the Hawks shooting 60% from the field.

Leading scorers were Luke Weingarten with 12 points, Matthew Molina 12, and Jake Anderson with 11 points. Point guard Tyler Carlson had nine assists, 0 turnovers.
