Crescenta Valley High School catcher Bogart Avila and the San Gabriel Valley Arsenal took home the title in the Northern California Under 18 Wood Bat Tournament. The championship game, held July 12 at St. Mary’s College, was won by Arsenal 3-2 in 11 innings on a walk-off single to clinch the victory over the Delta Indians.
Arsenal did not start off especially strong, opening with only a 1-2 record. However, the team managed to put together five consecutive wins to come out on top of the tournament.
Avila, an incoming senior for Crescenta Valley, put together an especially strong
tournament for the Arsenal.
The catcher showed off his offensive abilities, hitting .416 over the eight games and put together 18 innings behind the plate over the final two games.
