Village Christian baseball has been honored by the America Baseball Coaches Association with the 2018 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. VCS was one of only 97 high school programs to receive the recognition.
“I’m honored to coach student-athletes who are dedicated to athletics and academics,” said VCS head coach Chris Casey. “They deal with adversity every day in their personal lives, and they push through to get it done on the baseball field and in the classroom.”
“This academic award is attributed to the outstanding Village Christian School family that consists of the school leadership team – led by Head of School Tom Konjoyan, the administration, Athletic Department, teachers, counselors, parents, coaches, and all of the student-athletes dedicated to the overall process. Juggling a busy social life in high school and playing sports and getting it done in the classroom is not an easy task,” Casey added.
The award, which is also presented to collegiate programs, is given to ABCA member schools whose programs earned a 3.0 GPA or better during the 2017-18 school year.
“We are thrilled to be able to honor all of this year’s Team Academic Excellence Award recipients,” said ABCA Executive Director Craig Keilitz. “It is a privilege for our association to have the opportunity to highlight so many deserving teams and recognize all of the hard work they put in off the field throughout the year.”
The Crusaders are coming off a strong 20-7 season, which saw VCS earn its seventh consecutive trip to the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.
