The Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation recently completed its 4th Annual Glendale City Golf Championship, presented by the Local Trusted Choice® Insurance Agents. According to organizers, over $15,000 was raised for local parks and open space. The money is earmarked for planting new trees and fixing the trails in Deukmejian Park and also supporting nature programs held at Deukmejian for kids in Glendale schools.
The first round was held at Scholl Canyon Golf Club and the final round was held at Oakmont Country Club. The amateur tournament hosted players from as far as Ventura, San Clemente, Manhattan Beach, Riverside, Lancaster and La Quinta.
City champion was Ryan Miranda, a graduate of St. Francis High School and former Glendale Community College golfer.
Deukmejian flight was won by Oakmont Country Club member Justin Mooney, the Verdugo Flight was captured by Jerry Piro of Glendale and Steven Garcia, who works at Glendale College won the Brand flight.
Women’s Champion was Annika Gino, a high school student from Dana Point.
“This event continues to grow in notoriety, the golfers in the championship flight were by far the best we have ever had. It is fun to see this event mature,” said tournament chair Rick Dinger. “Each year we continue to make improvements and we are already looking forward to next year.”
