The Rosemont Middle School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams wrapped up undefeated seasons on Oct. 30 in the Rosemont gym against the Wilson Knights. The Spartan girls played first and won a seemingly close game 32-27, although Wilson was able to score several baskets as time wound down. The Spartans led 24-8 at halftime.

Center Sinayt Tassew scored a game-high 12 points, and teammate Micaela Cacho-Negrete contributed eight points, including four free-throws. Caity Bouchard hit two three-pointers in the opening minutes but scored just two more points the rest of the way as she decided to play distributor.

For the boys, it was the same as it was the whole season, as center Will Smiley dominated with his rebounding spin moves down low. Smiley finished with 22 points as Rosemont won 45-23. Joe Suh was next on the team with six points. Like the girls, the boys did most of their damage in the first half, as they led 31-9 after 20 minutes.

Led by boys coach Brent Ballard and girls’ coach Chris Bouchard, both Rosemont teams won all six games they played and captured the league title. Besides Rosemont and Wilson Middle School, the league also includes Toll and Roosevelt.
