The Crescenta Valley Falcons boys’ basketball team is already in a hole in the Pacific League, but they can start to climb out of it on Friday when it travels to Muir High School to take on the Mustangs, which are 4-0 in league, currently tied atop the standings with 5-0 Pasadena.
The Falcons have already lost to Pasadena, so taking another defeat to the likes of Muir wouldn’t be good. Despite the slow start in league at 2-2, CV is 10-2 overall, having won every game outside of its conference mostly in tournaments.
The team has a little bit more size and height than in recent seasons, in Harout Tahanian (6’4”) and Chuck Meyer (6’6”), but it still relies heavily on the guards, and CV has talented ones this year in junior Tyler Carlson and senior Andreyas Boghossian.
Both Carlson and Boghossian were in the middle of a frantic comeback last Friday against Burbank that fell just short. The Bulldogs controlled most of the game, taking a 20-point lead in the first half. CV battled back late and took a one-point lead late. Burbank responded with a three-pointer on its possession, and the Falcons couldn’t come back; their last-second effort to the tie the game missed the mark and, after a scramble, the buzzer sounded, signaling defeat.
After Friday, CV will pick up League action again on Jan. 4 when it hosts Pasadena at 7 p.m. During the winter break, it will play in the 10th Annual San Gabriel Valley Classic at Monrovia HS from Dec. 26 to Dec. 29.
