Our second Teen Trials & Tribulations talk was on bullying prevention, an issue so many people tell me is relevant. Those present heard from Scott Anderle, EdD, GUSD Student Support Services, Cynthia Livingston, EdD, Rosemont principal, David Johnson, anti-bullying motivational speaker, and our own Glendale Police Officer Joe Allen. Linda Evans, retired CVHS principal, acted as emcee.

Our third talk in this series on suicide prevention efforts in GUSD takes place on March 27 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 pm. in CV High’s Library, 2900 Community Ave.  GUSD speakers include Ilin Magran, psychologist with Healthy Start and Karen Carlson of mental health services.

Parent sessions are back on! Have you opened a parenting book since your kid entered kindergarten? Are you finding the adage, “Little kids, little problems” to be true? Pam Erdman and Paul Royer offer you the chance to update your skills. Join us on Tuesday nights from 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Crescenta Cañada YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd., upstairs. Childcare is available through the Y. Topics are: Conflict resolution on Feb. 25; The crushing reality of performance pressure on March 4; Raising teens to be happy adults on March 11; Dealing with my child’s moods on March 25; How to help my child with peer problems on April 1; For men only on April 8; and Understanding and dealing with electronics on April 15.

CV Youth Alliance’s black light bowling party is Thursday, Feb. 27 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Montrose Bowl, 2334 Honolulu Ave. for high school students only.  Tickets are $3 in advance, or $5 at the door!

CV Youth Alliance is thriving! They meet weekly, alternating Thursdays and Friday nights. If you know of a high school student who would benefit from joining this group, encourage them to join. A child who is involved in activities they enjoy, with peers who accept them, develops the confidence needed to protect them from being bullied and bullying others.

Our next quarterly strategic partners meeting is Friday, March 7 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at USC VHH. We’ll hear from Glendale Police Chief Robert Castro. This is a working meeting, and reservations are strongly encouraged.

Allies: please visit our website, CV-Alliance.org, and email us at info@cv-alliance.org to RSVP and to learn more about our programs.
