Community Driven: The Balcony of LA
The Balcony of LA is a non-profit designed to build up La Crescenta through awesome community initiatives. The Balcony was founded in 2020 during the pandemic by a prior CV Town Council member who, feeling powerless globally, was inspired to turn towards the community.
Over the past 12 months our projects have gathered steam thanks to locals just like you. More than 15 miles of litter has been collected off our streets with La Crescenta Litter Club, 175 children attended our holiday screening of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” at CV Park, 50 trees are currently under review for planting in the area, 22 children are taking part in our after-school Garden Masterclass and more! Our Instagram account is coming up on 1,400 followers, mostly local users. We use the social media platform as a place to spread awareness and spotlight the arts, businesses and community events that make up our great little corner of LA County.
The Balcony is an official 501(c)(3) non-profit so can be utilized as a tool to write grants and establish itself as a “proper entity” when speaking with bureaucracy (local, state or national).
One of our secondary goals is to streamline community opinion via regular surveys and neighborhood outreach allowing us to have a greater understanding of what the community desires. Like any team, being able to easily communicate with one another in a coordinated group effort is what propels us forward.
If these projects sound like something you may want to get on board with or if you’re inspired to jump-start something that you’d like to spearhead (chili cook-off!?!), please reach out! If you want to keep in the loop, a great next step is to join the mailing list via our website or follow us on Instagram. We offer a daily feed of La Crescenta/CV culture.
Whatever your skill set, whatever your commitment, whoever you are – there is a place for you.
