Still Being Blown Away
It’s been two months since Hovasnnes Dongelyan wrote about the noise, air pollution and disruption of neighborhood serenity caused by irresponsible use of leaf blowers and over a month since I presented the Glendale Homeowners Coordinating Council resolution to the Glendale City Council asking them to agendize regulation of the devices. If you live in Glendale and agree with the growing number of residents who feel there are better ways to garden, please contact the council members and ask for action on this important quality of life issue. If you live in the unincorporated part of La Crescenta and Montrose, where there is no leaf blower regulation, you can contact Supervisor Antonovich and request action. If you live in the City of Los Angeles, gas powered leaf blowers cannot be used within 500 feet of a residence and you can report violations via 311 for non-emergencies.
Regardless of your jurisdiction, you can instruct your gardener to use electric powered, less polluting models or, better yet, a rake or broom. The website www.zapla.org suggested by Dongelyan has a lot more information on the topic.

Enjoys His Insight
[Jim Chase wrote] a great column in which he once more shared about reality living [“Our Year of Living Adventurously,” My Thoughts Exactly, April 12]. He continues to give readers a wonderful insight into a local family and what it means to have a love relationship not based upon what Hollywood does but based upon true commitment of man and wife as talked about in the Bible.
