So many things and so little time. This month’s article will read more like a calendar of community notices events and invitations. So without any further ado let’s jump right in:

 

 

CV Town Council Land Use meeting on Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library Community Room, 2809 Foothill Blvd.

 

On the agenda is a Conditional Use permit for the charter school Options for Youth. The school wants to move into a new facility in the 2600 block of Foothill Boulevard. Several other items will be discussed as well. The community is encouraged to attend.

 

 

4th Annual Crescenta Valley Community Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church-Healy Hall, 2411 Montrose Ave.

 

Special keynote speaker is Jim McDonnell, Los Angeles County Sheriff, on “Keeping our Kids on Course.” This is an event joined by religious leaders of all faiths. Tickets are $10 and kids are free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.thecvCouncil.com.

 

 

CV Town Council general meeting. May 21, 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library Community Room

 

. This is always a fun meeting when scholarships and recognition certificates are presented to 17 graduating seniors. In addition, our new CV Water district manager will be on hand. Also, information about the 710 Freeway draft EIR will be discussed from both sides of the aisle. There will be a brief presentation from Metro followed by a brief presentation from Ara Najarian and Anthony Portantino.

 

 

Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 25 at 8 a.m. at Two Strike Park war memorial, 5107 Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta.

 

Keynote speaker is Lieutenant Colonel Raffi George Najarian. Sponsored by the American Legion and VFW Post 1614.

 

 

Graduation ceremonies on Wednesday, June 3.

 

Throughout the foothills graduation ceremonies will be taking place. Crescenta Valley and Clark Magnet high school ceremonies will take place on their respective campuses at 5:30 p.m.

Please drive carefully in our community as there will be numerous other graduation ceremonies taking place and this is the last day of school.

 

 

Free tickets to the 23rd Annual Music Festival at the L.A. County Arboretum on Sunday, June 7 at 2 p.m.

 

Reservations can be made at www.TheCVCouncil.com. Reservations must be made no later than May 25. Transportation will be included by bus leaving the La Crescenta Library. We have 55 tickets available; first come, first served. 

 

 

CV Town Council Land Use meeting. Thursday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library Community Room.

 

This will be an outreach meeting where L.A. RICs will address questions and concerns pertaining to the proposed cell tower at the Crescenta Valley Briggs Sheriff’s Station.

A few last items:

If you ordered a Crescenta Commons tile, we are scheduled to start installation on the weekend of June 13.

Council continues to work with the county and the chamber to help eliminate the ongoing illegal signage and banners on Foothill Boulevard.

Caltrans will begin a pavement and slab replacement project to improve the 210 Freeway later this spring and continuing through mid-2018, starting at the Dunsmore Avenue undercrossing in La Crescenta to the N. Los Robles Avenue overcrossing in Pasadena. These projects will include replacing medians, barriers and guardrails; upgrading pavement, lighting and electrical systems for the I-210/SR-134 tunnels; resurfacing and replacing distressed slabs; modifying curbs to meet the ADA; installing loop detectors; and restriping. This work will include both day and nighttime operations, and lane and ramp closures.
