LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Glendale City Councilman Ara Najarian believes that the Metro transit system is safe for everyone, in spite of publicized crimes like the May 24 stabbing of a Metro bus driver.

“When these incidents happen, it’s easy to question if the Metro system is safe,” said Najarian, who chairs the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority board of directors. “It may appear counterintuitive…but for the  vast majority of daily riders on our system, the system is safe.”

Like his clueless colleagues, Najarian wants us to get out of our cars  and use public transportation. I doubt that we will see him riding a crowded bus or taking the dirty subway that doubles as a mobile homeless shelter.

The Board of Supervisors, City Council and Mayor Karen Bass told law enforcement to stand down. As a result, no police officers, sheriff’s deputies or transit officers have been checking the fares for at least three years.

Meanwhile, Najarian and his colleagues prattle about homeless outreach, which is pointless, and safety ambassadors, who are useless. But I like their Miss America-style waves when they greet me at Union Station. It’s all in the wrist.
