Hi, CV!
As the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) Superintendent Dr. Sheehan leaves we must recognize and thank him for the benefits his leadership has brought to CV Alliance. Dr. Sheehan spoke at our June 2014 Strategic Partners meeting, giving everyone a snapshot into the richness of GUSD schools, student population and learning opportunities for those enrolled. Without his okay, we’d fail. Here’s how important GUSD is to CV Alliance.

GUSD’s Healthy Start office brings together nonprofits and others serving our most needy students and families under the leadership of Scott Anderle, EdD, and Ilin Magran, EdD. In addition, hats off to Diana Hill, case manager, and Margarita Gasparyan, office manager, who teach parent education classes.

The board of education supports our efforts, too. They partnered with us on an important mental health literacy grant. Current and past members Mary Boger, Joylene Wagner, Christine Walters, Dr. Armina Gharpetian and Jennifer Freemon have attended our partners meeting. And, Dr. Armina selected CV Alliance as a nonprofit she’ll attend as part of her official duties!

Glendale Council PTA, under the leadership of Elizabeth Manasserian, Sandy Russell and Monna Johnson, rolled out the red carpet! They brought us to school units and they co-hosted, promoted and supported our events. Red Ribbon Week has meaning thanks to them. We also want to acknowledge the webmasters and Facebook administrators in the schools who spread our work.  And to be selected for an Honorary Service Award by CVHS’s PTSA was exhilarating!

Principals have attended our partners meetings including Suzanne Risse, Rebecca Witt, Karen Stegman, Cynthia Livingston and Linda Junge. You want/need champions in your corner like Drs. Livingston and Junge, and Gazebo35, Annick Downhower, and Mary Torossian who blasted our flyers at their request. Cynthia brings enthusiasm, appreciation and expertise. Linda opened her library to us and now it’s “our place.” Thanks to VPs Rene Valdez and Forest Holbrook for setting us up.  And super-duper thanks to the custodial staff at CVHS, especially Gabriel who got the door open when I called him even though he was on vacation!
