Let’s recap our 2014-15 year:
September – Teen Trials’ “How the Teenage Brain Learns” by Tina Givrad, DEA Drug Take Back, Strategic Partners meeting, CV Youth Alliance at CVHS, Healthy Living in a Changing World community conference at GCC.
October – ID check at Oktoberfest, Paul Royer led four free parent sessions at the YMCA on communication about substance use, setting limits on screens and technology, time management, and connecting with teens emotionally, Teen Trials’ “The Permanency of Social Media Posts” by Dan Evans, Red Ribbon Week program with Glendale police, Glendale Council PTA and Didi Hirsch, billboard warning against drinking/drugging and driving, Walk & Talk stepped off.
November – Teen Trials’ “Academic vs. Emotional Intelligence” by Melina Sardar, Parent Sessions moved to CVHS Library, Alex Guthman spoke about “Risky Behavior & How to Be a Lifesaver.”
December – Teen Trials’ “What is a Healthy Teen Dating Relationship” by Rosanna Cacace, Strategic Partners meeting, Parent Sessions “Current Trends & What to Look For” by Sheriff Eric Majetka, LASD, and “Self-Esteem & Communication” by Julia Rabago.
January – Teen Trials’ “Teen Anxiety & Depression” by Lisa Vartanian, Parent Sessions “Is Your Home Safe for Teen?” by Annie Ortega and “Rehab & Relapse” by Ben Salazar.
February – Teen Trials’ “Building a Foundation for Family to Thrive” by John Howell, Arsineh Ararat led four parent sessions on Parent or Friend?, communication & setting boundaries, non-verbal communications, and empty promises/threats.
March – Teen Trials’ “Distracted Driving and DUI” by Ryan Bejar, CHP, Strategic Partners meeting, UVoice by the CV Youth Alliance, Parents Sessions featured Joe Allen, “Vaping, E-Cigs & Hookah.” Linda Campo “Mood & Thought,” “Out of Reach: Medicine Abuse through the eyes of a teen” documentary, and Eliminate Anger & Anxiety by Julia Rabago.
April – Teen Trials’ “Reengineering the Teenage Brain” by Tina Givrad, Parent Sessions on “Addiction is a Family Disease” by Anita Harutunian, “A Positive Community” by Bill Flanders, and “Drugs & Teens: A Parent’s Perspective” by Anonymous.
“This was literally the dream.” So said keynote speaker Henry Lozano looking at all of the people at our June Strategic Partners meeting. Our families rule, too!
