Congratulations to Our 2019 Graduates!

Hearty congratulations to the Class of 2019 at Crescenta Valley High School! The CV Town Council, along with representatives from the offices of numerous elected officials, honored the scholarship recipients of our community (in alphabetical order): Katelyn Blood, Ariana Coba Clementel, Rachel Hart, Catherine Ko, Lauren Lundeen, Rodney Maclean Lunt, Nicholas Mitchell, Sona Mkrtichyan, Reshmi Patel and Elizabeth Petersen,  all of whom are CVHS seniors.

I was honored to participate with Supervisor Kathryn Barger’s deputy Sussy Nemer in a round of interviews involving choosing the new captain for the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and welcoming the new captain, Todd Deeds, to our community. Sussy and I subsequently met with Capt. Deeds and talked about all the safety issues that concern our community.

I was present at the Two Strike Park ceremony in honor of Memorial Day this year, as well as the CVHS Students Award night.

Let me take this opportunity to thank Pastor Steve Marshall of the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church for his service to the citizens of La Crescenta through his volunteer work with the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and to wish him best of luck as he moves to his next assignment.

I want to also take a moment to honor J’s Maintenance for their 50th anniversary and their invaluable contribution to the community.

It’s official; mark your calendars! We have set a date for the 135th anniversary of La Crescenta/Montrose! The celebration will be on Saturday, Sept. 21 at St Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church. Come and support your community and the Town Council.

The Crescenta Valley Youth Town Council is pleased to host a movie night, a family-friendly movie screening at the American Legion Hall, 4011 La Crescenta Ave. on Friday, June 14 from
6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In district-wide news, Supervisor Barger praised 5th District first responders as the best, brightest and bravest in the world. It was an honor to have so many deputies, officers and firefighters join her for her annual Public Safety Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, June 5. The theme this year focused on supporting our heroes – they endure and see so much and we want them to know it’s okay to ask for help. Thanks to guest speakers Chuck Lennon, program manager for the Dept. of Mental Health, and Mike Koch, counselor with True North Recovery Services, for their empathetic words of wisdom.

Our LA County Beach Bus is back! Reserve your spot for only $6 round-trip (and $2 for seniors) with pickups right here in La Crescenta! To get more information and make reservations, visit: https://dpw.lacounty.gov/transit/.

Finally, the annual Live at the Arboretum concert is back on Saturday, June 15 featuring country music legend Dwight Yoakam. Tickets start at just $10 and gates open for picnics at 5:30 p.m. Don’t miss the best outdoor dinner party in town with spacious circular table seating or lawn seating for those who want to bring a blanket –both options are perfect for picnic dining with family and friends! Concertgoers can enjoy food trucks and two beverage centers serving wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks. Get tickets at https://pasadenasymphony-pops.org/concert/dwight-yoakam/.
