9/11 Memories

A time to remember a time we never will forget. Time stood still 13 years ago and as a community we will remember together. Starting at 9:11 a.m. today many of us will stand in front of our fire stations, schools and along Foothill Boulevard as a procession of cars led by the Early Rodders Car Club travels throughout La Crescenta, North Glendale and La Cañada in honor of the 2753 victims of 9/11. The map of the morning procession can be found on the Town Council website. At 7 p.m. tonight, the community is invited to Bob Smith Toyota, 3333 Foothill Blvd., to a ceremony honoring the first responders. Lastly, our CV Youth Council will take the lead and host another ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Two Strike Park War Memorial.

As we honor and remember this week we will also be celebrating 9/12/14 in the 91214. Various locations throughout the 91214 will be celebrating between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The CV Town Council would like you to stop by and celebrate at Crescenta Commons, located on the corner of Orange and Rosemont avenues. We will have our 75 ft. scroll out for the community to sign. The scroll will be placed in a time capsule and then lowered into the monument at the dedication ceremony (time and date to be announced). Don’t forget about the donor tiles we are placing at the site. The donor tiles are handmade 8 x 6 inch tiles with a personal note from you. The tiles will form two rings around the sundial. Many parents and residents have already submitted a request. The tiles will leave a long-lasting personal impression from our community for years to come. Donor tile forms are available on our council website as well. Come see all of the progress we have made over the past month! We anticipate completion of the site by Oct. 9 and installation of the tiles by late November.

Speaking of Oct. 9, this will be the last day to submit your application to run for CV Town Council. Requirements to run for CV Town Council are: You must be 18 years old, a registered voter and have lived in the unincorporated area of La Crescenta/Montrose for at least one year. If you are passionate about changing something in your community or want to help serve your overall community, then I encourage you to run. The CV Town Council election will be held on Saturday, Nov.  8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library Community Room, 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta. Absentee ballots are also available on the Council website www.thecvcouncil.com.

One last note – our Sept. 18 general council meeting at 7 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library will feature Glendale Community College presenting great opportunities for our high school students and new GUSD school board president Greg Krikorian.
