Exploring the Origins of Bullying
Are we letting politicians, the major media and adults get away with bullying?
The vicious ongoing attacks on our President, his supporters, and various religions are perfect examples. One could say “So what! Sticks and stones, etc.”
But what is being overlooked is the lesson that is being taught to our children. Two years ago, a child in a nearby local school committed suicide because he was being bullied. Everyone agreed that bullying should be stopped. But how are you going to stop the bullying by children if adults set such bad examples as bullies?
I have not seen a single article on this subject that chastised these adult perpetrators. So is it any wonder why school bullying is becoming epidemic? It is well known that children are greatly influenced by the behavior of adults. If adult bullying is accepted, then why would you expect children to act differently?
Do you remember when debate was taught in school, where having a different opinion was okay as long as you could logically support it? Where did that go? My suggestion: Support should be pulled for any media or politician or Hollywood celebrity etc. who bullies. People should write to them, chide them and request that they set a better example for our children.
Protect children by setting a good example: stop bullying! Restore open communication and logical debate. Convince someone by reason and debate not by force and bullying.
That is my two cents and I am sticking to it.

Much Needed Reminder
Thank you, Charly Shelton, for reminding us that all Californians should be prepared for the “Big One” [Taking a Page from Harvey and Irma, Sept. 14]. Along with emergency water, food, money, and a generator, and other stuff, all structures should be retrofitted to earthquake standards. There are a lot of homes that are not even bolted to their foundation. Every homeowner should have an expert check their foundation. After it is retrofitted, they may get a discount on their earthquake insurance.
Thanks again.
