Voting Info, Dumping Issues and More

It is October and fall is in full swing. Kids are getting a hang of distance learning and parents are feeling a little more comfortable at home. But first and foremost, the CV Town Council wants to acknowledge our Armenian community members and let them know that we stand with them. Our hearts are with all the families that have been torn apart by the aggressions of Azerbaijan on the Republic of Artsakh. In times of unrest, it is important that we come together and support one another as a community.

Our nation is also less than a month away from elections. We want to make sure everyone is informed on voting procedures. Early voting began Monday! Every voter in LA County will receive a ballot in the mail. The Glendale/La Crescenta area has nine ballot drop box locations, including Montrose Library, Dunsmore Park and the La Crescenta Library on  Foothill Boulevard.

Return your ballot at a ballot drop box, mail it via United States Postal Service (no postage necessary) or bring it to a Voting Center (from Oct. 24 through Nov. 3). If you still want to vote in person, bring your ballot to a Voting Center starting Saturday, Oct. 24.

Your health and safety is our priority. All participating Vote Centers will follow state and county public health and safety guidelines. Facial coverings and gloves will be made available if needed. All surfaces will be wiped and sanitized as will ballot marking devices after each vote and social distancing of six feet will be observed. Election workers will also be wearing protective gloves and masks. If you have any questions or need assistance in voting early please call the LA County Registrar’s Office at (800) 815-2666 or email voterinfo@rrcc.lacounty.gov.

It is also voting season for the CV Town Council. If you would like to be part of the council, applications can be found on our website at thecvcouncil.com or on our Facebook page. Deadline to submit applications is 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 13. Applications can be emailed to harry@thecvcouncil.com or mailed directly to Crescenta Valley Town Council, P.O Box 8676, La Crescenta, 91214.

Illegal dumping continues to be a huge problem in our community. It is also a huge safety and health concern for our community members. It is a disgrace to our community to dump trash wherever “the dumper” pleases. I drive around daily and see mattresses, furniture and other items that have been left out for days. Take pride in your community! We are not a dumping ground. Those residents in La Crescenta or La Cañada Flintridge who have bulky items dropped at their residences or in their neighborhoods can call (888) 838-6746 or download The Works iPhone or Android applications. Anyone who witnesses illegal dumping in the unincorporated portion of LA County can call (888) 838-6746. We are in this together.

Another topic in the Crescenta Valley is the upcoming condominium development on Briggs Avenue and Foothill. The proposed developer has submitted plans to LA County Regional Planning for affordable housing condo units, but those plans could be months away from approval. If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the Land Use Committee or the CV Town Council.

And lastly, do not forget our monthly Town Council meetings. For those who have an interest in attending and participating in our virtual meetings and want to submit comments and/or questions, we encourage you to please contact CVTC at contact@thecvcouncil.com.

With a lot of our community events being canceled this year, including Oktoberfest, the annual Montrose Christmas Parade, and our favorite pancake breakfast, let us come together as a community. Things are starting to open slowly. Nail salons and indoor malls are opening at 25% capacity with health protocols in place. Let us focus on what we can do today, in this moment. We need to protect our

community members, wear our masks, support our local businesses and reach out to a neighbor and say hi. Tensions are high these days, but what we must remember is that we are all human. We are all in this together! Thank you for doing your part to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and protecting your family, friends, neighbors and community.

Stay healthy, stay safe, stay home, and do not forget to get your flu shot.

Harry Leon,
President
Crescenta Valley
