Election Season Has Not Yet Ended

Votes have been cast and our political landscape has changed. America has a new president. California has new representatives at the state and federal levels.  Congratulations to Kathryn Barger on her election as Los Angeles County Supervisor – 5th District.

After a particularly divisive election season it would be a relief to throw away our voter guides and look to the holidays. However, election season is not over for the residents of La Crescenta-Montrose. In fact, one would argue that the most important election is still in front of us: Crescenta Valley Town Council elections.  Every November residents from unincorporated La Crescenta cast ballots for up to three candidates who will best represent our community to Los Angeles County Supervisor – 5th District Kathryn Barger.

The Crescenta Valley Town Council members volunteer to serve our community. The CV Town Council has an immeasurable impact on the La Crescenta-Montrose community. Cornerstone projects include the dog park, the skate park, Crescenta Commons, new sidewalks at Rosemont Middle School and (our biggest accomplishment) the La Crescenta Library. CV Town Council members represent your views, opinions and needs to the supervisor’s office. Most recently a group of Girl Scouts from Troop 3481 discovered a need in the community – a new pedestrian crossing sign at La Crescenta Avenue and Los Olivos Lane. The CV Town Council assisted these young ladies as they expressed the concern to L.A. County. A traffic study was completed and it was determined that a new sign would be needed.

For the 2016 election season there are eight candidates vying for six seats: three regulars seats (3-year terms) and three alternate seats. Voters will be able to vote for up to three candidates.  The CVTC candidates are Harry Leon, Charles Beatty, Aram Ordubegian, Kyle Studebaker, JoAnn Stupakis, Kerri Lewin, Brandon Lee and Joshua Wade. This year’s CV Town Council elections will be Friday, Nov. 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church (Sadler Hall), 2563 Foothill Blvd.
