Crescenta Valley Water District Out in the Community

As the holiday season comes to a close, it’s nice to reflect on some of the community outreach the District has participated in over the last few months. La Crescenta is blessed with a wonderful community spirit and the District is proud to be a part of this tradition.

Welcome back, Montrose Christmas Parade! Staff was excited to be able to participate in the 2022 Parade. The Vactor truck was polished and decorated with lights for this fun community event. The Vactor truck is the District’s largest vehicle and is used to clean the community’s 72 miles of sewer mains.

The third annual food drive was a success. The District, with the generous support of the community, was able to collect three large barrels of canned goods and dry food that was donated to the Valley Food Bank, a part of the Rescue Mission Family. The Valley Food Bank distributes over 2.1 million cans and packages of dry goods and over 2.5 million pounds of fresh food per year to more than 180,000 people in need.

Another event also on its third-year anniversary is the blood drive. Employees and residents made appointments to donate blood at the District’s Glenwood Facility. This year, over 40 people were able to make donations, exceeding the blood drive goal.

For Veterans Day, the District celebrated its employees and their family members who have served or are serving in our nation’s Armed Forces. In addition to other activities that employees participated in, staff raised over $700 for Climb for Heroes. Climb for Heroes supports the Heroes Project. This annual Veterans Day event at Mt. Baldy supported our injured veterans, raised money and awareness for injured vets and their mental and physical health. Thanks to all who supported Nem Ochoa, Arturo Montes and Morgen DuRose on their journey to the top.

One rainy Saturday morning in October, the District hosted a tour of several of its reservoir sites and wells to talk with members of the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley about the past, present and future of water in the Crescenta Valley. The District has 17 reservoirs and around 17.5 million gallons of water storage. David Gould, director of Engineering and Operation of CVWD, led this fact-filled adventure detailing where our water comes from, emergency preparedness and future projects to enhance the District’s water supply. Mr. Gould, who is retiring at the end of this year, will be greatly missed by the CVWD family and community alike.
